Who we are

We’re a small vegan donut shop working hard to share our passion for scratch-made, high-quality, handcrafted baked goods. Every step of our vegan donut-making process is done by hand, from scratch, using only top-notch ingredients. Unlike large doughnut chains with hundreds of locations mass-producing donuts from factory machinery and the cheapest ingredients, we believe in doing things differently.

Many chains rely on pre-made dough mixes and tubs of artificially flavored icings, glazes, or jams—but here at Peaceful Provisions, we make almost everything from scratch. From our yeast-raised doughs and custom fillings (creams, curds, custards, etc.) to our house-made toppings (puff pastry, cookie crumbs, cake crumbs, buttercreams, fluff, and more!) and icings, all our goodies come from recipes we’ve perfected over the past ten years. We also support local businesses whenever possible, like using jams from Beth's Farm Kitchen in Old Chatham, NY, for our jam-filled varieties!

Our brioche-style yeast-raised vegan doughnuts follow traditional bread-making techniques, with multiple proofing processes, including a 24-48 hour cold ferment that enhances flavor development.

We emphasize quality on every level of production over quantity and strive to offer mindfully and compassionately crafted products for our family, friends and patrons

  • Yes 100%! Always and forever! Vegan doughnuts are our specialty. We even make vegan brioche style dough for our donuts that is fermented for 24-48 hours for enhanced flavor development.

  • No, we are not certified kosher at this time.

  • Yes, all of our baked goods are made with gluten.

  • Our vegan doughnuts are not 100% organic, but we use many ingredients that are. We simply try to find the best ingredients, some of which are organic.

  • Yes, our vegan doughnuts are not suitable for people with barley, coconut, corn, sesame, soy, or wheat allergies. People with a gluten sensitivity or intolerance should not consume our doughnuts. Nuts are used heavily in our facility, so cross contamination is likely to occur. While our doughnuts are not made with sesame, we do use some ingredients that may be processed in the same facility as sesame.  We advise anyone with barley, coconut, corn, nuts, sesame, soy, or wheat allergies to avoid consumption of our products entirely.

  • We use King Arthur Baking flours, which contain wheat and barley flour.

  • We use canola oil to fry our doughnuts.

  • No, we do not.  All of our ingredients are natural.

  • Just like any fried food, day-old donuts are never very good. The longer donuts are held, the more they will deteriorate in quality. Since we do not use any preservatives or stabilizers in our vegan donuts, they should be enjoyed as soon as they are purchased, preferably within 3 hours to maintain optimal freshness.

Filled donuts should be consumed as soon as possible as the fillings can spoil if you keep them for a prolonged period of time. Unfilled donuts can be eaten within 24 hours, but quality and texture will be compromised, so please order accordingly.

  • Our vegan donuts range from $4.00 to $6.00 depending on the flavor and type.

  • Our donuts are scratch-made in small batches from quality ingredients and require a considerable amount of labor to produce.

When we say everything is scratch-made from high quality ingredients, we mean everything. Our yeast-raised doughs, fillings (puddings, creams, curds, custards, etc.), toppings (puff pastry, cookie crumbs, cake crumbs, etc.) and icings are all made in-house from scratch using recipes we’ve developed over the past eight years. Plus, we never use pre-made dough mixes, icings or fillings.

Unlike cake donuts that are more easily and quickly made from stiff cake batters, we handcraft brioche style yeast-raised doughnuts, which require lengthier and conventional bread making procedures that yield light and fluffy donuts with a slight chew. The dough for our donuts undergo a few proofing processes before we are able to fry them. One process is a 24-48 hour cold ferment for enhanced flavor development.

Simply put, our ingredient and labor costs are higher than the national donut chains we are often compared to. If you were to take a look at most artisan doughnut shops (vegan or not) across the country, you’ll notice a higher pricing structure with prices ranging from $3-$5 for donuts because they face the same reality. We’re not part of a large chain that has hundreds of locations and mass produces donuts from factory style machinery with the cheapest ingredients possible. As a very small business, we also don’t have access to the vast amount of resources and bulk discounts that doughnut chains with longstanding infrastructure do. Every single step of our donut making process is done by hand, from scratch, using quality ingredients.

  • It’s best to consume your donuts the day they are purchased. We do not use any preservatives or stabilizers in our products, so the shelf life is very short.

Please consume unfilled donuts within 24 hours for best quality. Filled donuts should be consumed as soon as possible as the fillings can spoil if you keep them for a prolonged period of time.

You can refrigerate filled donuts, but this will cause them to dry out and will reduce the quality. Always allow a refrigerated donut to come back to room temperature.

Unfilled donuts should be kept at room temperature in the box or bag they were packaged in, so they can ‘breathe.’ Plastic containers will lock in moisture; possibly resulting in runny icings and a soggy donut.

You can refresh a day-old donut by popping them in a microwave for 15-20 seconds or in a 350° toaster oven for about 1 minute or less (will slightly affect the icing and draw out the oil making it more greasy).

  • While we always recommend consuming our donuts as soon as they are purchased or within 3 hours, some guests have said they’ve frozen our donuts to prolong the shelf life.

If you do freeze your donuts, we recommend allowing them to thaw out at room temperature for several hours before consuming for the softest texture.

Please note, freezing negatively affects the icings, glazes and certain toppings.
